– This course aims to explore some of basic questions that have arisen within the core fields of analytic philosophy, i.e. the philosophy of language, the philosophy of mind, epistemology, and metaphysics. Here are a few examples of the questions that we can address in this course: How is reference possible for linguistic expressions, assuming that they refer at all? How can mental states have representational content? How can we acquire knowledge about abstract entities, given their existence? What is the nature of free will, and do we truly possess it?

Is libertarianism incompatible with the ideal of social justice? What are the legitimate functions of the state?

– Contemporary philosophy uses linguistic analysis as a tool to deal with philosophical issues, and this methodology is based on the topics of philosophy of language. The goal of this course is to understand how to apply the methodology of contemporary philosophy through critical examinations of main arguments in philosophy of language.
